Spiritual Emphasis Retreat

rK2-2011-1A Spiritual Emphasis Retreat takes place at Pacific Islands University early in the Fall Semester each year and students, faculty and staff participate. Classes and other activities are canceled and the students, staff and faculty take some concentrated time to focus on their relationship to God through prayer, meditation, fellowship and service activities.

Some years this takes place on the PIU campus but the goal is to retreat off campus — camping at places like Tarague Beach located on Andersen Air Force Base and Bayview Church located in Maite.

There is a theme each year and speakers who challenge the students in spiritual growth. Besides regular sessions, the students and PIU community enjoy other events such as “Shema Cafe” (a venue for musical performance and readings),recreational activities, as well as local community service projects, such as painting nearby bus stops, picking up trash or holding a 50 cent car wash in which the students give out 50 cents to the driver of each car washed.
