Envisioned and planned by Pastor Jeff Johnson and Fred Schmidt of the Lutheran Church of Guam, the event brought together several churches from around the island. Each participating church prepared a musical piece to perform and the event concluded with a mass choir piece composed of members from all participating church groups! The Festival ended with a pie and ice cream social. This special event was well received with the hopes of making this an annual occurrence.

The three day event had sessions led by the student life staff in the morning. Evening and Saturday sessions were led by Pastor Phillip Bradley (son of PIU instructor Steve Bradley) of Agana Heights Baptist Church. Pastor Bradley challenged the students to fill their spiritual hunger with God alone. Besides regular sessions, the students and PIU community enjoyed other events such as Shema Cafe, a venue for musical performance and readings, as well as local community service projects, such as painting several nearby bus stops and holding a 50 cent car wash in which the students gave out 50 cents to each car they washed.

For three days, residents of Guam and the surrounding Micronesian islands, along with the Pacific Islands University community, gathered for PIU’s second annual Pacific Islands Evangelical Seminary (PIES) Preaching Conference at the Guam Reef Hotel. This year PIU was pleased to have Dr. J. Kent Edwards of Talbot School of Theology as the speaker. Dr. Edwards not only led the three days of sessions, but he also participated in several other events aimed at ministering to and equipping local pastors/church leaders and their wives, such as attending PIU’s monthly Theological Discussion group and leading a Pastor and Pastor’s Wives Breakfast. After another successful conference, PIES and PIU is looking forward to next year’s event!
